Visitor Information
The Mayagüez Campus of the University of Puerto Rico (RUM) is located in the city of Mayagüez, in the western region of Puerto Rico. The city, named after a local river, currently has more than 100,000 inhabitants. Mayagüez has a zoo (Zoorico), a city park (Parque de los Próceres), a fine-looking plaza (Plaza Colón), a music and arts theater and the UPRM. The city's economy is mostly based on a brewery, a large shopping mall, a seaport with a large tuna industry for export, plus a few hotels and fast food restaurants.
The university life is at ease with the daily afternoon showers and an active nightlife. Beaches are nearby, and even the zoo helps to calm down those active engineers' minds. It is a great experience for a well-known University to be in such a nice setting: good parking, great cafeteria and a nearby shopping center for more elegant lunches. It's a great University without the big city rush of Atlanta or Cambridge, that will make the learning experience unforgettable.
