ECELED is built up of Electrical and Computer Engineers (ECE) from the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez. Our goal is not only focused on reducing energy consumption, but developing sustainable energy alternatives to supply our electricity needs, achieving a better quality of life by replacing conventional methods with efficient solutions, with the vision of building a clean, sustainable future.

  • Energy Alternatives: striving in providing Puerto Rico with Renewable Energy Alternatives as well as Energy Efficient technologies. Renewable energy are said to be the twin pillars of sustainable energy policy and are high priorities in the sustainable energy hierarchy.

Energy Alternatives

The conversion of renewable sources like sunlight or wind into electricity. This is achieved with the use of photovoltaic (PV) and wind energy converters.

Clean Energy

ECELED invests a large amount of research in coupling this technologies and reducing energy consumption with clean alternative instead of conventional methods that produce harmful CO2 emissions.

Illumination Technology

ECELED focuses on replacing the conventional CFL with high efficient LED technology. LEDs are an emerging technology and the UPRM has developed several lighting designs that make use of this technology.
